"I’ve just started my summer holidays and I decided to take the time to listen to Crash by crash by Aspect Ratio. I was lying on my bed, my mind still half asleep this morning when #WavesRmx hit me in the face relentlessly with those drums. By the end of the song, however, I was washed away to a sea of tranquillity; the ghost of that final melody rode me into #NewFolder. #EmptyReturn called me back into the bleak hours of the morning and made me feel like I’m running – yet I was sitting still. Running for or from what? Who knows. But then I got used to the soothing bass line in the back and felt very calm and imagined myself on top of a mountain sitting tea, overlooking the valley. So I decided to make myself a cup of high mountain tea that my girlfriend had sent me from Taiwan. While the water was boiling, #RigidMotion started playing. Man, I was not prepared for that. I just sat at my desk while trying to listen to the small melodies and sounds that would appear in the background to see if they would release me from my paralysis. In the last minute of the song, the rigid motion stopped and the kettle started boiling. I got up. Poured the water into the cup. Watched the leaves unfold as the next song played. Lovely smells came up to my nose. The music made me feel like I needed to focus my mind to fight a final boss in a video game as #FG6ILLTA2021 played. When I awoke from the final battle, #NayeonLee was looking at me, smiling. There’s this tiny flute-like melody in that song that feels very light-hearted against the heavier recurring sound in that song. I felt alright. The tea was good. The music enveloping me. I just drank and listened while looking out of my window at the trees and birds outside. But behind the trees, the #UrbanParkShapeshifters were lurking. I started to notice the wind blowing harder. I couldn’t help but start thinking about the list of things I need to do this summer but didn’t feel like doing right now because I just started my holiday. I snapped back out of it and realised that the shapeshifters in my mind only take the form that I allow them to take in my mind. So I decided to think differently. I focused on the drums. I had a vision of people dancing around a fire. Just dancing, nothing more. After some contortioned motions, the overcast sky became brighter and light shone on the Earth saying ‘#Hi’ to me. I had to listen. It was kind of uplifting in a grave way. Six minutes in, I finally said hi back. No scratches could stop this moment. The drum beats seemed to live in parallel dimension to the music. I started listening more to the drums. Then fade out.#FormatCodeMeaning. This time I was mostly listening to the drums. Then this jolly tune kicked in towards the end of the song. And it led right back to the initial #Waves. Almost done with my tea. The bass/drum beating against my ear. The end. Car sounds from the street outside came to my ear and pulled me back to reality. I just finished listening to this album" Maximilian Hartung, 10/07/2020

Aspect Ratio consists in a research on new ways of techno-ing ambient music. Aspect Ratio’s experimentation process is led by the fusion between droney repetitions and abstract random patterns.
Aspect Ratio designs sounds for Umanesimo Artificiale and Collettivo ØNAR and creates atmospheres for theatres, short films, planetaria and multimedia installations. Crash by crash is Aspect Ratio’s debut album, a self-production that has been kindly and lovingly adopted by Homeless Records. It is an intimate and spacey ode meandering through the labyrinths of the innermost emotion and the unconscious mind. A soundscape for those who dwell on the unalterable past rather than try their utmost to shape the future in a different pattern, and for those who live the night as the eternal unmoved mover.
During the #CrashByCrash #live tour, Aspect Ratio had the chance to represent Umanesimo Artificiale as the opening act to Caterina Barbieri and Robert Henke live sets at Fano Jazz Fest 2019.
